Greeting The Day
Let me touch
what I have never touched
Sing songs I’ve never heard
Dance with moves I’ve never felt
And awaken this body
to new exaltations.
Life comes and goes
so quickly —
The grass once green
now brown
The figs full again
eaten
Children grow
and have their own.
And I, too,
feel my body’s life force slow
But I won’t let her fall
into the dark abyss
I will stretch her again this morning
Touch what I have never touched
And sing the songs I’ve never heard.
